We believe our world needs more peacemakers, and that meditation is a direct path to inner and outer peace. Through long retreat our innate powers of freedom, wisdom and compassion grow and flow forth into our world.
The goal of practice is a profound transformation of being where we mature our generosity, ethical discipline, patience, heroic effort, concentration, and wisdom, cease to identify with anything in experience, and in so doing awaken for the welfare of all beings. When the heart ceases to grasp experience including thoughts, moods, views, and desires, our deeper nature of compassion and wisdom naturally emerge.
The path to awakening is to encounter our own hearts and minds directly through meditation and see how we are meeting experience. Then we can study and transform any hindrances, and nourish the qualities in our heart that support awakening. This work is primarily done in the present moment through the cultivation of mindful awareness.
Although the core practice is intensive silent meditation, because the nature of awakening is selfless, the forms of practice include meditation, chanting, eating, and working together in community and meeting face to face with the teacher on a regular basis. The invitation is to engage with all the forms of the retreat from our awakened heart which is free from self clinging and thus compassionately responsive to life.
Fundamentally, this is a deep training to overcome our own suffering and be a force of healing in our world.
