Overnight Retreats

Three and twelve nights of silent practice at the Boundless Refuge retreat center in the mountains of Mendocino.

Spring Awakening

April 16–19, 2027 · three nights

Three days of silence as the hills turn green. A short retreat is enough to feel how much quieter the mind becomes when it is given room: we settle the body, rest in presence, and let grasping loosen. The days blend sitting and walking meditation, mindful activity, Dharma talks and individual meetings with Milo. A good first retreat, and a way back in for anyone who has sat before.

The Long Stillness

May 7–19, 2027 · twelve nights, or either half

Twelve days of sustained practice, long enough for the retreat to stop being an event and become a way of living. As silence deepens we learn to rest in a vast, awake stillness that does not depend on circumstances. Teachings draw on the Satipaṭṭhāna Sutta and on direct pointing to the nature of awareness, offered with rigor and warmth. Come for the whole twelve nights, or for either of the two six-night halves.

  • Twelve nights$1,750
  • Six nights$1,000, first or second half

Rest in the Mountains

May 29–31, 2027 · Memorial Day weekend

Spend the long weekend in silence instead of on the road. Three days in the wild beauty of the Mendocino mountains, with meditation, teachings, nature and a quiet community, to meet experience with compassion and clarity and bring some of that peace back into everyday life.

The retreat center

The center sits on about 40 acres of beautiful land, with open space, rolling hills, and abundant nature. At its heart is an old, rustic house with five fireplaces. People sleep in dormitory-style rooms or in bell tents scattered across the property.

It is not a luxury retreat center. The rustic accommodations are part of how we keep retreat prices accessible, and they are in keeping with the spirit of practice.
